We are honored to share that Bonnie Morrison has been named the recipient of the Mildred N. Lucas Lifetime Achievement Award.

A proud Amarillo native, Bonnie began her career in funeral service in 1997 at Schooler Funeral Home. She was part of the inaugural Mortuary Science class at Amarillo College, graduating in 2000. Over the next 26 years, she served hundreds of families across the Texas Panhandle with compassion and care at both Schooler and Angel Funeral Home into a leadership role as manager of both locations in 2008.

In 2017, Bonnie and her husband Jim relocated to North Carolina, where she managed Brooks Funeral Home and Crematory.

She returned to Texas in 2019 and continued serving families in the Concho Valley during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, she made her way back to Amarillo to once again serve the community she calls home.

Bonnie is a licensed funeral director and embalmer in both Texas and North Carolina. She is also a certified celebrant, crematory operator, and an active member of her community. Her career reflects a deep commitment to service, leadership, and compassion for the families she serves.

Please join us in welcoming Tristan Herrera as the new Managing Funeral Director of Martinez West Funeral Home and Crematory, West Odessa, Texas.

Tristan was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Texas Tech University, followed by a Master of Business Administration. His early career as a fitness specialist at Covenant Lifestyle Centre allowed him to work closely with patients recovering from cardiac and respiratory trauma and reinforced his passion in caring for others.

Driven by that calling, Tristan entered the funeral profession and graduated from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Services in 2025. He gained hands-on experience with Combest Family Funeral Homes and is licensed as both a funeral director and embalmer.

Tristan is committed to serving families with compassion, professionalism, and integrity. Outside of work, he enjoys life with his wife, Gabby, and their two dogs, Bear and Mia, and continues to prioritize wellness and personal growth.

Led by Managing Funeral Director, Tristan Herrera, alongside Area Manager, Billy Vallie Jr., the Grand Opening celebration brought together families, friends, and community members for an afternoon of connection and hospitality. We’re excited to announce that Memorial Oaks Chapel has officially opened a new location in Carmine,

Texas.

Located at 107 Augsburg Avenue in Carmine, the new location will serve the communities of Round Top,

Carmine, La Grange, Giddings, Burton, Windale, Warrenton, and the surrounding communities. This

expansion reflects our continued commitment to providing compassionate, professional service close to

home.

An Open House Grand Opening celebration was held on December 3, 2025, welcoming approximately

185 community members. Guests enjoyed catering from JW’s Steakhouse, and live music from the Black

Cat Choir Trio, helping make the event both welcoming and memorable.

We are pleased to welcome Cassie Flanner as the new Training and Development Coach for Legacy Funeral Group.

Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, Cassie grew up in a military family—an experience that shaped her adaptability, curiosity about human behavior, and commitment to serving others. She began her career in funeral service in 2002 and brings more than two decades of industry experience to her role.

Cassie holds advanced degrees in mortuary science and criminal justice, including a PhD in Criminal Justice, and has published academic research focused on criminal behavior and justice. She also serves as an instructor at the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service, where she supports and prepares students for careers in funeral service.

In addition to her professional background, Cassie is actively involved in the community and serves as Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Cypress Fairbanks. She is also engaged with several professional organizations, including the National Funeral Directors Association and the Texas Funeral Directors Association.

We’re excited to have Cassie join the Legacy family and look forward to the leadership, insight, and support she will bring to our training and development initiatives.

Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Earns 2nd Place in Ozark Christmas Parade

The 2025 Christmas season was filled with celebration and community spirit in Ozark, Alabama, as the Kiwanis Club of Ozark hosted its annual Christmas Parade. Among the many festive entries, Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home proudly participated with a beautifully designed float that captured the heart of the community - earning an impressive 2nd place award.

The float was brought to life through the dedication and collaboration of several team members and friends. Special recognition goes to Lauren Chancey, Elizabeth Gericke, Justin English, and Jason and Megan DiFilippo.

Lauren Chancey and Megan DiFilippo crafted many of the float’s decorations by hand, investing significant time and creativity into making the display truly stand out. Jason and Megan DiFilippo generously contributed their time and talent, helping transform the vision into a festive reality.

Their combined efforts resulted in a float that reflected not only the joy of the season, but also the strong relationships and community ties that define Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home.

2025 Annual Cajun Christmas Luncheon & Ornament Contest

Guests enjoyed authentic chicken and sausage gumbo, followed by a dessert potluck featuring a variety of holiday favorites. The afternoon also included an Ugly Sweater Contest, where participants showcased their most creative and spirited seasonal attire.

Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Celebrates 50 Years of Service in Kingsville, TX

On October 10, 2025, Turcotte-Piper Mortuary proudly celebrated 50 years of compassionate service to the Kingsville community with a special anniversary event filled with gratitude, fellowship, and fun.

The evening began with a family-friendly mixer, followed by guest speakers including Mayor Sam Fugate, Judge Brandon Barrera, Noe Gonzalez Jr., James Clement III , and Albert Martinez. Pastor Jan Dantone offered the benediction. Guests enjoyed delicious food served by H.M. King High School JROTC members and live entertainment from mariachi bands, singers, and a special appearance by the King Ranch cowboys.

The celebration was a meaningful reflection on five decades of service since 1975. As Managing Funeral Director Noe Gonzalez Jr. shared, the event was a heartfelt way to say thank you to the community for its trust and support throughout the years.

In the days leading up to the celebration, Turcotte-Piper Mortuary hosted a city-wide Scavenger Hunt Adventure, adding an interactive and family-friendly element to the milestone event. Twenty specially marked rocks were hidden throughout public areas within Kingsville city limits, each featuring a QR code for participants to scan. Community members of all ages were invited to search for the rocks, upload photos, and keep their finds. While not every rock contained a prize, winners were announced and prizes distributed during the anniversary event.

For 50 years, Turcotte-Piper Mortuary has stood alongside families during life’s most meaningful moments. This golden anniversary not only honored the past but also celebrated the strong bonds that continue to unite the Kingsville community.

We’re pleased to announce the promotion of David Houston to General Manager of the Roswell Market, overseeing Ballard Funeral Home & Crematory and LaGrone Funeral Chapel & Crematory in Roswell, and Terpening & Son Mortuary in Artesia.

David began his funeral service career in 1982 after graduating from Lamesa High School. He earned his Funeral Director and Embalmer licenses in Texas before relocating to New Mexico, where he became an FSP in 1989. David has held leadership roles on the New Mexico Funeral Service Association Board (twice as President) and the New Mexico Board of Funeral Service (four years as Chairman).

David has been a steady presence at Terpening & Son for many years, and we’re confident he will bring strong leadership and direction to the Roswell Market in this new role.

Leadership Changes - Southwest & Texas Panhandle, Central Texas, Louisiana

We're pleased to share several exciting leadership updates within the Legacy Family:

Kevin Combest, a former owner and Regional Manager, is promoted to Regional Director. Kevin will take on an expanded leadership role across the Southwest and the Texas Panhandle. With the support of Billy Vallie, Jr. (Area Manager), Kevin will oversee both the Odessa and West Texas Markets, along with the Texas Panhandle. He will also help guide the Abilene Market in partnership with Bryan Hicks (Area Manager). In addition, Kevin will continue his managerial responsibilities throughout New Mexico.

We are also excited to announce the promotion of Ryan Stephens to Regional Director. Ryan has been the Regional Manager of Central Texas for some time now. In this new role, Ryan will work alongside Norman Gonzales (Regional Manager) to oversee both the South Texas and Central Texas Markets, supporting continued growth and operational excellence across the region.

Ray Dupre has been named Regional Manager for the entire state of Louisiana. In this expanded role, Ray now provides leadership and oversight statewide, including the recent addition of the Baton Rouge Market—comprising Ascension, Baker, and Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home. Ray’s dedication and leadership to his team continues to strengthen as he works to assist with the care provided to families across Louisiana.

Funeral Home in Apopka, Florida, and Loomis Family Cremations in Minneola, Florida.

Established in 1946 by Francis E. Loomis in Winter Garden, Florida, Loomis Family Funeral Home

With deep roots in Abilene, Texas, we are honored to announce that The Hamil Family Funeral Home is one of our newest members of the Legacy Family.

Robert Hamil is a third-generation funeral director and embalmer. He and his wife, Karla Hamil, have owned and operated the business for the last 20 years.

Each year, Legacy Funeral Group hosts its annual crawfish boil for local employees, vendors and professional colleagues who come together to enjoy some good Cajun cooking.

This year's event was particularly noteworthy as several Legacy funeral homes and individual employees were presented with annual performance awards. Strickland Funeral Home, Darling-Mouser Funeral Home, Goetz Funeral Home, Pellerin Funeral Home and Baker Funeral Home were each recognized with Excellence in Customer Service Awards from 2023.

Additionally, several 2023 Employee of the Year awards were recognized: Tiffany Simmons of Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, Manager of the Year; Steven Bailey of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home, Funeral Professional of the Year; Steven Richard of South-Central Louisiana, Sales Professional of the Year; Miguel Rodriguez of Trevino Funeral Home, Support Professional of the Year; and Tollie Haymaker of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, Administrator of the Year.

We were very lucky to have many of our award winners present - some even traveled from other states!

As Legacy Funeral Group continues to grow, we are proud to announce Steve Boudreaux’s promotion to Vice President of Funeral Home Operations.

Steve has been in the funeral industry for 30 years. He is a licensed funeral director and embalmer and has proven himself in many areas of our industry including location and regional management, casket sales and was recently appointed by the Governor of Louisiana to serve as a board member of the Louisiana State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors.

Steve’s favorite aspect of working with Legacy is the family atmosphere, and small-company feel that Legacy promotes.

“Steve has more than earned a position on our leadership team,” says Michael Soper, President and CEO of Legacy Funeral Group. “Steve’s experience and industry knowledge, as well as his passion and dedication over the last 10 years have been instrumental in turning Legacy into the brand it is today.”

Steve is a graduate of Delgado College in New Orleans and enjoys spending time with his wife Jodi and two children, Garrett and Sydney. When Steve is not working, he enjoys fishing in South Louisiana.

As Steve puts it, “It’s an honor, a privilege, and a responsibility I take great pride in.”

Legacy Funeral Group Acquires Three New Funeral Homes in Central and South Louisiana

Legacy Funeral Group is proud to announce the addition of three family-owned funeral homes joining the Legacy family.

Twin City Funeral Home , Morgan City, LA
Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home & Crematory , Natchitoches, LA

This was an easy decision for us. Based on the fact these funeral homes have great operations, great people, and a rich background of family tradition, culture and heritage, they are a perfect fit for our Legacy family. Steve Boudreaux, Regional Manager, will oversee these locations and they are practically in his back yard.

A family man at heart, Mike Murphy, owner of the three funeral homes in central and Southern Louisiana, decided he wanted to spend more time with immediate family and therefore required a change. These funeral homes have been in his family for over 55 years, and it is an honor to now have them in our family.

There were multiple offers on the table for Mike from other companies, and it makes me proud that he chose Legacy Funeral Group. Mike mentioned to me that everyone he met from our company made him feel comfortable during the entire process and ensured him that his employees would be taken care of, and his traditions would be respected. A special “thank you” to Gene Pellerin who assisted me by reassuring Mike’s decision and confirming to Mike that the promises Soper makes will be honored.”

In the aftermath of the tragedy in Uvalde, our Legacy Family came together to support the community and the families affected. We pulled resources across 10 of our funeral homes to support the families in Uvalde, TX. It was a genuine team effort to give these families the support and the best possible service during the worst possible moment of their lives.

Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary, located in Uvalde, served at the center of the community during this incredibly difficult time. Their staff worked tirelessly to support the families affected, coordinating services, assisting with arrangements, and helping guide families through an unimaginable situation with compassion and professionalism. Their dedication to the families and the Uvalde community reflects the commitment our funeral homes share to serve with care, respect, and dignity when families need us most.

Combest Family Funeral Homes Joins the Legacy Family

Legacy Funeral Group is honored to announce the acquisition of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory. This family owned and operated business began back in 1962 when Kevin Combest’s aunt and uncle, Billie and Martin White, originally purchased Stanley Funeral Home of Tahoka, TX.

In 2010, Kevin and his wife Tonya decided to purchase the locations from his aunt. Today, Combest Family Funeral Homes is comprised of three Texas locations: Lubbock, Tahoka, and O’Donnell.

Michael Soper, President and CEO, Legacy Funeral Group remarks, “I have known Kevin for many years and have a lot of respect for him, not only as an operator, but as an individual.”

Kevin Combest remarks, “I’ve known Michael for 15 years and I have very close industry friends who have known Michael even longer. Kevin will continue to be involved in the business he and his family created, and we are pleased that long-time friend and associate, Rex Johnson, has agreed to become the new General Manager along with Bill Vallie, Sr., who will oversee this location as Regional Manager.

Legacy Funeral Group Purchases Charlie Marshall Funeral Homes

(Houston, TX) Legacy Funeral Group announces the purchase of Charlie Marshall Funeral Homes, located in Rockport and Aransas Pass, Texas. These two funeral homes join more than 100 funeral homes and cemeteries already under the Legacy umbrella, operating across nine different states.

Charlie Marshall built his first funeral home in 1949 and faithfully served the families of Aransas Pass and Rockport for over 65 years. Marshall, who passed away in 2014, built a reputation and was known as a pillar of the South Texas Coastal Communities.
