Combest Family Funeral Homes Joins the Legacy Family

Legacy Funeral Group is honored to announce the acquisition of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory. This family owned and operated business began back in 1962 when Kevin Combest’s aunt and uncle, Billie and Martin White, originally purchased Stanley Funeral Home of Tahoka, TX.

In 2010, Kevin and his wife Tonya decided to purchase the locations from his aunt. Today, Combest Family Funeral Homes is comprised of three Texas locations: Lubbock, Tahoka, and O’Donnell.

Michael Soper, President and CEO, Legacy Funeral Group remarks, “I have known Kevin for many years and have a lot of respect for him, not only as an operator, but as an individual.”

Soper continues, “Kevin and Tonya have nurtured trust and respect in their communities. As a result, Combest Family Funeral Homes has continued to grow through generations of customers. Our shared values and commitment to customer service make this a perfect fit for our Legacy family.”

Kevin Combest remarks, “I’ve known Michael for 15 years and I have very close industry friends who have known Michael even longer. When Tonya and I decided to sell the business, all conversations pointed back to Michael Soper. I trust Michael and just knew in my heart that he was going to preserve, honor and continue the legacy of what my family has built over the last 60 years. In my mind, Legacy Funeral Group was the only choice.”

Kevin will continue to be involved in the business he and his family created, and we are pleased that long-time friend and associate, Rex Johnson, has agreed to become the new General Manager along with Bill Vallie, Sr., who will oversee this location as Regional Manager.

Legacy Funeral Group is proud to welcome Kevin, Tonya, Rex and the entire staff of Combest Family Funeral Homes to the Legacy family and we are thrilled to have such a well-respected and trusted brand and group of dedicated individuals continue to serve families in northwest Texas.

Please take a moment to welcome Kevin and Rex by emailing
