Kevin Combest

Regional Director

Kevin A. Combest serves as Regional Director for Legacy Funeral Group, overseeing locations across West Texas, Panhandle and New Mexico. He is a native West Texas resident who was born and raised in Snyder, Texas, graduating from Snyder High School in 1988. Pursuing his dream to be a college basketball coach, Kevin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Sport Science from Texas Tech University in 1993.

During his time in college, Kevin worked part time at a local funeral home in Lubbock, Texas and discovered his passion for the funeral industry. He began to focus his efforts toward becoming a funeral professional. In 1995 Kevin graduated from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service, earning his Associate of Applied Science. He has been a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in Texas since 1996 and reciprocated dual licensing in the States of New Mexico and Nevada in 2022.

Purchasing his first business in 1999, he co-owned Combest-Miller Mortuary in Lubbock for 9 years. Kevin is a strong advocate for the industry. In 2007 he, along with his former business partner Benny Miller, joined forces with Senator Robert Duncan and Representative Carl Isett to develop House Bill 56 during the 80th Legislative Session. After developing and presenting the proposed bill on the house floor, it passed allowing commercial embalming establishments to own and operate a crematory within their location.

During that same time, Kevin received his Certified Crematory Operators Certificate in 2002, and his General Lines Insurance License in 2009. In August of 2010 he had the opportunity to purchase the funeral home he worked for in college.

Some of his accomplishments include earning his lifetime Certified Funeral Service Practitioner designation in 2012, being awarded Panhandle Funeral Director of the Year in 2013, receiving the Distinguished Funeral Service Award from Dallas Institute of Funeral Service in 2023, and being appointed to the Texas Funeral Service Commission by Governor Greg Abbott in 2019 while serving as a Commissioner and fulfilling his term ending in March of 2026.

In May of 2022, Legacy Funeral Group acquired all three locations of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory from Kevin and Tonya Combest where they continue to be part of the Legacy Family in Lubbock. Kevin and his wife Tonya have been married for 32 years. Kevin has always aspired to provide advice and resources that will allow each funeral professional to mature and grow in their professional career while creating opportunities for their Funeral Homes success. Kevin’s belief and faith continue to counsel and guide his decisions daily.
